The Catskill Mountain Crafts Collective, Inc. was founded in 1999 to promote the art and crafts of the Catskill Mountain Region. Over the last five years, the CMCC has hosted educational seminars for artists, sponsored a wholesale crafts show and created Catskill Colors & Crafts, an annual month-long celebration of the culture and crafts of the Catskill Mountain Region. In 2004, the Catskill Mountain Crafts initiative focused on the creation of community-based cultural heritage trails throughout the Catskill Mountains. These trails featured local artists with open studio tours, galleries and exhibit spaces, restaurants serving locally produced foods, historic inns and B & Bs, as well as traditional visitor attractions. Tourists and residents alike were able to sample the unique culture of the Catskill Mountain Region and discover the hidden gems along our back roads and byways during the October Colors and Crafts Festival. For 2005, the Catskill Mountain Crafts Collective is partnering with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development, the Catskill Mountain Foundation and the Catskill Association of Tourism Services to produce A Lark in the Park, with 100 ways to celebrate fall in the Catskill Mountains. The ten-day fall festival will run from October 1 - 10 and will feature open studio tours, gallery exhibits, craft shows, festivals and outdoor guided adventures including hikes, bike tours and canoe adventures.
